Greenmount Landscape Students Make it to Worldskills Final

Jonathan Gill lines up for the paving circle at Tatton show.

Three’s definitely not a crowd at Tatton RHS Show, where three CAFRE students have successfully made it onto the UK Worldskills team for Leipzig in Germany next year. The most significant achievement for the CAFRE squad is that the three horticulture students from Northern Ireland make up half of the six person squad who will go forward to the worldskills event next year. “This is a real achievement for the lads, and it’s a tribute to the hard effort they’ve put in to get here”, said CAFRE worldskills tutor Johnston Shaw, “they could be the next GMac, McIlroy and Clarke of the landscape world!”

Jonathan Gill, Matthew Bradley and Aaron Jamison have been through three rounds of elimination to join the elite 6 person squad. Over the next year they will undergo further training with the Worldskills organisation to perfect their skills and hone their competitive edge in time for Germany 2013. All three have completed the Extended Diploma in Horticulture at level 3 at CAFRE Greenmount Campus.
