Report on Garden Centre Congress 2012 in Germany by Rachel Doyle

Frank and I along with Fergal and Barry are just back from the International Garden Centre Congress in Germany. It was an amazing networking and learning experience plus we got to see the very best garden centres in the Bonn/Klon area of Germany. Anne McKenna of the GCAI also attended what was an inspirational event for her. Mike Neary and Carol Marks from Bord Bia also attended along with Eoin Reid from Fernhill Garden Center.

I went to my first congress in 1995 and have never misses one since. I think that tells its own story of the value I have got from attending these superb events. Both our sons Fergal and Barry have now attended 7 congresses in total as they too see the benefits in keeping abreast of best international trends and practise.

We are privileged and excited to be hosting an International Congress in Ireland in August 2014 and there will be a Executive and Administrators meeting held in Ireland next February to make preparations for the upcoming event. It promises to be an exciting opportunity for the sector in Ireland to showcase all that is great about the garden centre industry in Ireland.
