Managing Director Leslie Codd commented that "clean energy is the way forward, our wind turbine is the first large scale turbine of it's kind installed on a farming production facility in Ireland. The project was excellently managed and finished within budget".

Located Tullow, Co. Carlow, Codd Mushrooms are a family business, who have been producing quality mushrooms for 20 years. They are dedicated to supplying their customers with the finest quality mushroom products. Some of their customers include Aldi, Dunnes Stores, Tesco, Keelings, Total Produce and Caterway.

In 2008, Codd Mushrooms set out to build a new production facility. This was constructed on their family farm. The growing facility is 9504sq/m and is divided up into 22 units. Alongside the growing area they have built a packaging and cooling plant capable of a throughput of 250,000lbs per week. Their current packaging volumes are up to 200,000lbs per week.

Enerpower installed a 160KW WindWorld wind turbine, with a hub height of 31 meters and a blade diameter of 24m, which allows Codd Mushrooms to generate 275,000kwh of electricity per year to power their site. With its very reliable robust design, the Wind World turbine has a payback period of approximately 3.5 years. The installation of the wind turbine has significantly reduced Codd Mushroom’s carbon footprint. Codd Mushroom’s new farm can be considered to be one of the most modern and advanced mushroom production units in Europe.
