Archaeology Month at Dublinia - October 2012!

'Under the Microscope' - a closer look at some remarkable discoveries made by archaeological science.

A series of FREE lunchtime lectures running every Wednesday throughout October.

(Lectures are tailored towards an older audience).

 

'Please Touch' - Artefact Handling sessions!

Experience the unique opportunity to take part in handling real artefacts and hearing the stories behind them.

2pm - 4pm daily until Friday October 26th.

(All ages.)

 

Dig Workshops

Get your hands dirty in our interactive dig room. These 50 minute workshops will give your child a chance to become an archaeologist! They will excavate unusual Viking and medieval artefacts, and draw their finds before displaying them on our Art Wall.

Weekends at 11am and 12pm, October 6th and 7th, 13th and 14th, 20th and 21st.

Explore and Excavate

Excavate replica Viking and medieval artefacts in our dig room as you explore the History hunters’ exhibition and see the real artefacts on display from the National Museum of Ireland.

11am - 1pm weekdays throughout October.

History Hunter Treasure Hunt!

Follow the clues and solve the riddle to find out if you have what it takes to be a HISTORY HUNTER! A prize awaits those who complete all the clues.

Join guest archaeologist Linzi Simpson and hear first-hand what it was like to discover and excavate a site where Viking warriors’ remains were found (now on display in Dublinia.)

Join Sheila Dooley, Dublinia’s curator, and get the naked truth about the artefacts on display in Dublinia.

(Artefacts on loan from the National Museum of Ireland).

‘Unearth the City’ (Walking Tour)

This eye opening tour will show visitors where some of the artefacts on display in Dublinia were excavated from and how archaeology really is right beneath our feet!

Tour starts in Dublinia. Wear appropriate outdoor clothing.

Bodies and Bones Tour

Not for the faint hearted, this tour explores how specialist archaeologists can extract information about a person just from looking at their bones!

THE BIG OUTDOOR DIG 2012

Help archaeologists uncover a large replica Viking house in Dublinia's courtyard over the October bank holiday weekend! Dress up as an archaeologist, excavate and process the artefacts and receive a certificate of participation!

Outdoor Event - Suitable clothing required.

Sessions run every half hour from 11am - 13.00 and 14.00 - 16.00
