Tully Nurseries Open Day & Workshops Report - Niamh Tully
- 22 March 2013
Tully Nurseries – Now a Serious Grower in the industry with over 1 Million plants now grown on-site. Customers were surprised with how many plants we grow and realized that we are serious growers and not only traders. They really enjoyed seeing the potting machine and visser system working as we are the only nursery in Ireland using this system. Up 250 plants are lifted at a time with forks and placed on the ground. There was great interest in seeing our new Hebe 'Rhubarb & Custard' (They were intrigued to learn that it takes 5 years to get a new plant to the market from the time the sport is discovered!
Why did we put the day on? Of course we wanted to shout out loud about our improved range and pricing but most importantly, we wanted to get everyone together and find out how we can improve our product range and service to them. We had a short questionnaire that allowed customers give their feedback and as much as we were delighted to hear the positive comments, we are more eagar to see new suggestions from customers! 'Its all about give and take this year where we can all work together and make it happen'
New e-commerce site - Now Live - It was also a big occasion for us launching our new web shop. It is much simpler and faster to use. It is linked directly to our POS system, which means that all items viewed on the website are available and in stock. Most products have pictures and we also give planting suggestions, what plants compliment each other. Landscapers contractors can now also see what they are saving from the retail price. In the last few years, our range has become a little stale so for us, we wanted to show customers what we have done to change this. Landscape contractors want to break away from the bread and butter plants towards something new and different to spice up their garden schemes! We showed exciting new Perennials including Chelsea award winners and brand new introductions.
Seminar & Workshop. We didn't want it to be all about us, we wanted to give customers something extra including Lorcan Bourke's talk on 'Industry Trends' and David Hagans talk on 'Soil Health' both of which gave the audience a fascinating insight. Presentations of both talks to follow on HortiTrends.
