HortiTrends Weekly Comment and News Digest - May 24th
- 24 May 2013
Chelsea celebrated its 100th birthday in style this week. The mother-ship of gardening shows, it has spawned a garden show industry worldwide that many in the horticulture sector, depend on to make their living. In Awards for 2013 RHS Chelsea Flower Show a win brings your brand or business into the public domain and make's it centre stage for that period of time. Speaking to various show garden designers and developers, they question is it worth the effort and apart from the accolade's, is there a financial payback? That said they always come back for more! Its the turn of Ireland's designers and related industries next week who are fervently working to meet their deadlines. There are many worthy causes who will benefit from better public awareness including Journey on Earth - The Hospice Garden | Large Gardens | Bloom 2013. These regional shows are now happening all over Ireland.
If you are exhibiting at Bloom you might be interested in running a COMPETITION via www.GardenGuide.ie we can help you increase the public awareness of your brand, long after Bloom is over. If you have a decent prize to offer then get in touch to see how we can increase sales and brand awareness. Bloom itself has also spawned a number of regional shows including the Northwest Garden Show 25th & 26th May 2013.
Hot of the press is The Sodshow Interview with Bloom Manager, Gary Graham.
UK Horticulture Matters Report Published has been done with industry wide participation and has come from concern for the industry there. Does "Horticulture Matter" in Ireland and do we need to undertake a similar exercise? One sign that maybe it does is Minister Coveney Announces €4.4 Million Investment Aid for Horticulture Industry. There have been many reports written that never see the light of day but following the Horticulture Matters template could return dividends. One organisation doing their bit is for the future is ITB Promoting Horticulture to Young Students at Scifest Event. Its this type of engagement with younger people that will enthuse them about horticulture as a career.
In Selling with Sound - Liam Kelly has a deeper look into the science behind retail. Is it a black art of retailing? Influencing customers with sounds and smell that do not occur naturally is seen as negative by some but embraced by others. Its like the Black and White art of SEO that we have been known to practice. There are two forms of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). One is called Black and one is called White. Black is about quantity over quality. White which is the SEO we practice will bring you less numbers but the quality is high. Your business will most likely suffer if using Black SEO which normally comes via an email or phone-call approach, promising you the sun, the moon and the stars.
