Creating Growers' Organisations for EU Funds

ECOHAL, the organization of Almerian auctions trading a substantial amount of the fresh produce of the greenhouses of Southern Spain has plans to create growers' organisation. These are needed for claiming European funds.

About 10.000 growers market their produce through ECOHAL´s member auctions, but very few of those growers have joined producer´s organizations recognized under EU-law. Alfonso Zamora, general manager of ECOHAL, explains that some € 31 million in European funds are lost annually to the growers due to this organizational failure. He is promoting the creation of new producer´s organizations to be joined by 10 to15.000 farmers and greenhouse owners of Southern Spain – all customers of the auctions - , that would qualify then for that support.
