Learn About Designing with Roses
- 20 February 2012
American Rose Society design judge Diana Kilmer will present a program on Designing With Roses when the Redlands Horticultural and Improvement Society Floral Design Group meets in the Lodge at Plymouth Village, Redlands.
Anyone interested in floral design or roses is welcome to attend. Kilmer will offer classic design tips and adaptations for large and small rose designs. There will also be a hands-on demonstration.
For years, Kilmer has been a member of the American Rose Society. She is an American Rose Society horticulture judge and consulting rosarian. She has been involved with roses since the early 1980s, but her family has been hybridizing roses since 1835 in Ireland.
Her great-great-grandfather opened a nursery in Belfast, Ireland, and it is still operating. Kilmer and her husband, Walt, regularly visit and judge the Rose Trials in Belfast. Kilmer and her husband also belong to the Federated Rose Society and the Royal National Rose Society of Europe. They judge roses and rose trials in the United States and internationally, including in New Zealand and Ireland.
They have written many articles about growing roses, and their business is the Rose Doctors. Kilmer is president of the Mountain View Rose Society, and her husband serves as first vice president. Their programs covering rose designs and roses are much sought after.
There will be floral design "treasures," supplies and containers available at the meeting.
