Meade Potato Company Launch their Origin Green Plan

Meade Potato Company launched their Origin Green Sustainability Plan with the help of Ireland’s Minster for Employment, Richard Bruton TD at the company’s headquarters in Lobinstown, County Meath. As growers, packers and distributors of fresh produce to the retail sector, the family business is one of the latest recruits for full membership of Origin Green – Ireland’s New Contract with Nature.

Minister Bruton raised the Origin Green flag in front of the farm and food production facility, acknowledging that sustainability is the cornerstone of job creation and innovation and congratulating Meade Potato Company for its contribution to local job creation over the past five years.

The fresh produce company, who launched the only Irish frozen chip on the market, Meade Irish Rooster Chips, has created over 150 jobs over the past five years and now employs over 240 staff at its Co. Meath plant. Minister Bruton Launches Meade Potato Co.'s Origin Green Programme

“We thought Minister Bruton would be the ideal person to launch our Origin Green programme as the initiatives that we have undertaken to become more sustainable have made and will continue to make us more innovative and innovation leads to growth and job creation,” commented Philip Meade Jr., Commercial Director of the firm.

“Our energy efficient measures around the food production facility are protecting our natural resources and helping us increase production efficiency. We also have bigger picture initiatives such as our Meade Irish Rooster Chips which is just one of our attempts to create a more sustainable potato industry. By offering Irish consumers the only frozen chip that uses home grown Irish potatoes, we hope to help in some way to stabilise the volatile potato market. This is evidence of sustainability and innovation going hand in hand,” added Business Operations Manager Eleanor Meade.
