Speaking recently at the launch of a 10 Year vision document for the prepared consumer foods sector , Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney, stated that this key manufacturing sector had the potential to deliver added value and jobs, resulting in valuable home market sales and increased exports.

Favourable Climate Boosts Bramley Apple Growers in Northern Ireland
Bramley apple growers in the "orchard of Ireland" are holding out for a good crop thanks to promising weather. The 200 growers covering 2,000ha in Northern Ireland are enjoying "a favourable climate at the moment", said Dermot Morgan, an Armagh grower and member of the Northern Ireland Fruit Growers Association.

Abstract: In general, the requirement of the contract is to provide fresh Fruit & Vegetable Products and eggs to all Seventeen (17) military locations as and when required. The supplies to be provided under the Contract shall be delivered to the satisfaction of the Minister and his/her agent in accordance with the specified requirements. Defence Forces personnel at both a local and national level will monitor quality of service. The tender is broken into 2 lots (One and Two), Locations for delivery are as follows : Lot One( Dublin Region) Cathal Bruagha Barracks, Dublin; McKee Barracks, Dublin; Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel; Gormanston Camp, Co Meath; Aiken Barracks, Dundalk, Co. Louth; Ceannt Barracks, Curragh, Co. Kildare; Pearse Barracks, Curragh, Co. Kildare; Coolmoney Camp, Co. Wicklow. Lot Two: Collins Barracks, Cork; Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick; CSS Naval Base, Haulbowline; Naval Depot Store, Haulbowline; Lynch Camp, Kilworth; Stephen Barracks, Kilkenny; Custume Barracks, Athlone; Mellows Barracks, Co. Galway; Finner Camp, Co. Donegal. All product items must be quoted for in both Lots. In order to quote for lot 1 Companies must quote for all locations within this lot. Companies that do not quote for all locations within this lot will be excluded from the competition for Lot 1. Lot 2 refers to all other locations outside of Dublin region. Companies may submit tenders for individual locations within Lot 2. Additionally companies may tender for all locations or some locations in Lot 2 (even one location). This approach is to facilitate initiatives to assist SMEs in Public Procurement as outlined by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform Circular 10/14. Companies may quote for both lots.

Food producers and restaurant owners surrounding Lough Derg have joined forces in an effort to promote the region as a food tourism destination. 'A Taste of Lough Derg 2014', a pilot initiative for 2014, features 13 separate food events taking place in villages and towns along the shores of Lough Derg in counties Clare, Galway and Tipperary.

Strawberries Sales Stay Strong in Ireland
According to a new Kantar report, there was an 8% increase in the volume of sales of strawberries in the Irish retail market over the last 12 months compared to the previous year. Commenting on the news, Michal Slawski, Horticulture Division, Bord Bia, said that it's interesting to look at how the growth in sales has changed over time.Traditionally, older consumers would have been the major purchasers of strawberries, while blueberries were a novelty purchase.

Musgrave Invest €8m in Green Truck Fleet
Wholesalers, Musgrave MarketPlace, today announced a major upgrade of its delivery fleet with an E8m investment that will see it introduce 55 new multi-temperature trucks to its fleet. It said that this will significantly cut the company's carbon footprint and facilitating high-frequency nationwide coverage.
