Title: Appointment of an Animator to Promote Diversification Amongst the Forestry Sector in South Tipperary
Abstract: STDC, (South Tipperary Development Company), implements a number of programmes in the administrative area of South Tipperary. These include the Rural Development Programme; The Local & Community Development Programme; Rural Social Scheme; National Countryside Recreation Strategy, Tús and a Primary Health Care Programme for the Traveling Community. In addition STDC provides a Community Playschool Facility. The company receives funding for these programmes form the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government, Pobal, the Department of Social Protection, the HSE, Fáilte Ireland and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. It is proposed to undertake a pilot animation programme up to 31st December, 2013 to promote diversification in the forestry sector in South Tipperary with a view to developing alternative forestry enterprises and outputs. The programme will also facilitate local forestry growers to develop a collective group structure – in the form of the South Tipperary Forestry Owners Group (STFOG) - which will also allow them to collectively market and sell their product to the growing wood energy market. It is envisaged that the pilot animation programme will have an impact well beyond the delivery period and that the initiative will lead to a diversified and self sustaining wood energy market in South Tipperary.
