RHS Show Cardiff is the venue this year for launching the new Young School Gardener of the Year Competition. The annual competition is aimed at RHS Campaign for School Gardening pupils from Key Stages 1-4, who can win a top prize of family tickets to RHS Tatton Park Flower Show as well as other prizes, through demonstrating exemplary gardening skills.

Adult school representatives nominate pupils online. The RHS then selects the 16 best entries, who receive digital cameras to make videos showing their gardening prowess. Once pupils submit their videos, BBC Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins decides a winner of each age group who will receive gardening tools and £100 National Garden Gift vouchers for their schools.

RHS Show Cardiff, falls at the end of National Gardening Week, and is the perfect place to launch a competition celebrating the green-fingered potential gardeners of tomorrow. The show is already a big hit with the youngsters through its Schools Wheelbarrow Competition, which demonstrates the imaginative planting of pupils from some 70 schools in South Wales.
