Coillte announces record earnings of €98.3m for 2016 - Coillte
Coillte, Ireland’s largest forestry and land solutions company, today announced its annual results for 2016. The company delivered record earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of €98.3m, up 10% on the previous year. Operating cash flow at €15.2m was up 130% on 2015 while operating profit (before exceptional items and revaluation gains) increased by 6.6% to €64.4m.

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny Marks Major Contract Between Coillte and Treemetrics - Coillte
Coillte, Ireland’s national forestry company, recently announced a major €1 million contract agreement, with Cork-headquartered Treemetrics to roll out a pioneering real-time satellite communications and data-analytics platform for forestry harvest control.

Forestry Advisory Clinics
Teagasc organized nearly 100 consultation days in January, February, and March with approximately 600 landowners benefiting from a one-to-one consultation with a Teagasc forestry adviser. These clinics focused on landowners who are considering forestry but the clinics also provided advice to landowners who already have a forest established.

Doyle launches New Felling Guidance Tool to help maximise returns from Forestry
Minister Andrew Doyle TD recently launched the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine’s Felling Decision Tool for conifers. The tool provides guidance to forest owners on when to fell their forest to obtain the best return from their forest asset.

McIlveen Announces Additional Application Date for the NI Forest Expansion Scheme
The Scheme is competitive, and provides support for farmers and landowners to plant woodlands of five hectares or larger this coming winter. The first phase of the Scheme last year resulted in over 180 hectares of new woodland planting. This year, applicants can apply by 12th September or by 30th September.

Huge Success for Coillte at RDS Forestry Awards
Coillte had a very successful day at this year's RDS Forestry Awards. The awards celebrate the best livestock and forestry producers in the country and the winners were revealed at a ceremony in the RDS Concert Hall, Dublin on 3rd March.

€200M Funding for Forestry Investment from EIB
The European Investment Bank has announced funding of over €200m for forestry related investment in Ireland - the first such investment in 20 years.
Currently, about 11% of Ireland's landmass is covered with forestry, well below the European average. The target outlined in the rural development plan is to bring that up to 17% in the decade ahead.

Teagasc Special Award at BTYSTE 2017 goes to Agroforestry Project
The winners of the Teagasc special award at BTYSTE 2017 were Asa Curran, Tiarnan Collins and Jack Ryan-Purcell from Schull Community College in Co Cork, who were also highly commended in their category putting them in the top 15% of entries.

Doyle Encourages Forest Owners to 'Talk Timber'
In his opening address to the ‘Talking Timber’ event held recently in the Auburn Lodge Hotel, Ennis, Co. Clare, Andrew Doyle, TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine with responsibility for Forestry, highlighted the event as “an opportunity to learn and listen about the timber sales process and all that involves, particularly in relation to harvesting options and how to maximise return from your investment in forestry”.
