Enjoying Food with all Five Senses

senses

Loughry student Carol Morton with two Taste Adventure participants.

Over 2000 children took part in the Slow Food Taste Adventure organised by Food NI which was held in the NI Good Food Pavilion at this year’s Balmoral Show.

Aimed at four to ten year olds (but also enjoyed by a few big kids!), the adventure took participants through five interactive zones, each zone focusing on how each of our five senses help us enjoy food.

Guiding the children through the challenge was a team of “expert” students from CAFRE’s Loughry Campus. These Food Technology and Food, Nutrition and Health students study sensory evaluation as part of their practically based courses and understand the importance of what is termed “organoleptic assessment” or in simple terms - the taste, smell and texture of food.

If you think one of Loughry’s courses might “tickle your taste buds”, come along to our next Open Evening.
