This new update comes from Heathrow Airport... Last week I finished a New Vision Retreat which I led along with fellow consultant Sid Rasich. This Retreat was by invitation only to selected delegates to look at the future in depth, both of the industry and of their business. Why now? This year I believe is the year of the Entrepreneur, it is a year when we need to make the right changes in our businesses while we have a window of opportunity. If you listen to the financial gurus that window of opportunity closes down in 2016 and we need to be ready for a different pattern of doing business.
The Retreat was a huge success and we will work with the same group on a six monthly basis developing new ideas.
This week Linda and I were host to 40 retailers on a coach tour of the UK, this proved to be an eye opening session for all of us. Imagine what can happen when you put the leading retailers from six countries on a coach for a week looking at leading retailers in the UK...we are now ready to head home and change the world!

I am really impressed at how it works as a marketing tool and we can really see the benefit for retailers businesses. The news and ideas for retailers are coming rapidly at present as retailing is changing so fast it is a constant challenge to keep up.
I often talk about being topical and keeping in-tune with the retailer. The best example of this is super bowl in the USA. Many retailers let this slip by as they believed consumers would be interested in watching the game rather than shopping. Not Richardson's Farm Market located in Baltimore the home of the Ravens, one of the teams playing in the final. Richardson Farm embraced the opportunity to celebrate with customers and created Ravens events around local food. As a result Richardson Farm has just had one of their best sales weeks ever.
