Rural Start-Ups to Benefit from Faster Broadband
- 13 June 2011
New brand onwave, formerly Satellite Broadband Ireland, has launched TV, home phone and up to 10MB broadband packages, which it says will be good for small rural businesses with slow internet connections.
It is marketing its broadband-only service to a core target market of 210,843 home and business internet users in Ireland who currently connect to the internet at speeds under 2Mb.
This group includes 54,718 who are still on narrowband or dial-up connections.
People looking to upload movies to YouTube, send large emails, download music, and surf the web faster will benefit from guaranteed speeds at all times of the day with the onwave service, it says.
“The benefits will spread to rural businesses, who will be able to compete on an equal footing with their urban counterparts, helping to spread employment and opportunities nationwide,” said Kevin Ryan, CEO, onwave.
onwave is simultaneously launching the TV, home phone and broadband bundle for every home in the UK. It will shortly launch more business services which will provide significantly higher speeds — up to 20Mb download.
