HortiTrends Weekly News & Comment - Dobbies WOW - Rentes Spring Fair Today - IHNSA Plant Fair Next Tuesday - 18th Feb

We have been on the road promoting the new trade journal Horticulture Connected. Yesterday was Trolley Fair Northern Ireland. Today we will be joining Rentes Plant Fair which has established itself as the go-to event to kick off the plant buying season in Ireland. Interestingly even though yeterdays NI Trolley Fair clashed with the first day of Rentes own show, it did'nt stop them from having thier own stand at that event. Its all about the marketing which should be constant and in my oppinion is most effective when you have nothing to sell. More on that next week. Also on that trip north I stopped in to Dobbies and had a good chat with Richard the horticulture manager.

HortiTrends Weekly News & Comment - HORTICULTURE CONNECTED Out Now - GLDA Strip - 4th Feb

The magazine is now out and thank you to everyone for the feedback (mostly positive) so far. We went through many different stages including 'Labour of Love' to 'Giving it Up' and back to 'Labour of Love' again, once we got the clearance from the editor Barry Lupton and proofreader Koraley Northen, that it was good to go. We are in general happy/ecstatic with our first edition but will be adapting rapidly to the feedback that has already been given, so expect to see changes in the second edition for which we have already pre-sold advertising.

In Leading Nurseryman Calls for Action and Industry Appeal to Minister on draft RDP Consultation Document there is potentially more losses ahead for Irish tree growers, unless they can make their voice heard. There was great fanfare last week as it was announced that Ireland now has a €10 billion Irish food export sector. Therein lies part of the problem, as ornamental horticulture it not top of any agenda for this government, due to a lack of understanding of the true value of ornamental horticulture to the overall economy.
